By frag_editorial This fragment is an initial experiment or test for a longer form desktop collage I am tentatively titling Tom Cruise’s Home Movies, after Mark Rappaport’s work with Rock Hudson. I wanted to experiment with various video clips and still images I have collected in the process in order to gesture towards the queer career of Tom Cruise. The clips are pulled from a variety of his films, but I have also included more tangential material — such as tabloid clippings, twitter fancams, and promotional materials for a coincidentally named pornographic film. It is composed using OBS screen recording software.
About the maker
Samantha Wojcik is a PhD student in Film & Media Studies and English at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her BA in Liberal Studies from Sarah Lawrence College in 2023. Her research interests include queer studies, queer spectatorship and reception practices, mass culture studies, and the star image of Tom Cruise. Sam is also a visual artist and her work has been displayed at the Mulberry Street Library in Manhattan.
