Our Television, Your Success: Tautology and the Simulation of Nature in Television Advertising

Our Television, Your Success (2025) is a videographic critique examining the visual rhetoric of high-end display technology. By compiling and editing footage from 11 distinct television commercials—all of which feature a screen placed within a landscape displaying the exact image behind it—this video interrogates the absurdity of the “transparent” interface. Drawing on Baudrillard’s concept of simulacra and Debord’s notion of the spectacle, the work argues that these advertisements do not offer a window to the world, but rather a “remastered” reality that supersedes the physical environment, framing the consumption of mediated nature as an exclusive marker of elite success.
