This fragment is a study of men in motion as they follow desires that propel them into intimacies and relations that they don’t always fully understand, that move them beyond the selves they thought defined them. This motion plays itself out through men, on the one hand, descending into darkness and basements and, on the other, ascending up hills in a city park and toward an open view in the countryside. Drawing on the affordances of the supercut, “Descending Ascending” tries to give form to masculine movement into and out of spaces of desire and love—of eros. Made in Adobe Premiere Pro, this fragment is the first in a currently two-part series of studies called Men in Motion.
